#285; Adding the Aftermaths

David: This first panel is our classic ’post-pillow-war chill-out’ image. It was a lot of fun, but also very tricky to put together… Thankfully Liz noticed that the original composition screamed ’SOMETHING INAPPROPRIATE HAS HAPPENED!’ at first glance. Although that undertone still lurks, we were able to minimize it a lot by improving the character placement. Also, removing the bottles of lotion and putting their clothes back on went a long ways towards helping avoid the wrong impression. That aside, I personally garnished great enjoyment from the various Grunn expressions showcased here… Some of them had me actually chuckling out loud as I sketched. I just love his emotional shifts, his stylized WHUT face, and the supreme hard-drive overload as he simultaneously tries to process sarcasm and access his memory files. You can almost see the gears turning. ______________________________________________________________________ Liz: Well, you put legs on a shark, and that’s what you get. Or as Grunn would say it: ‘thars whut yuh getah‘. Dave’s a ‘pro’ at shark spelling. After spending enough time with these characters, I keep forgetting that real sharks have long, fin-based tails attached. I think Grunn’s a little sore over his cop-out tail, or maybe just a little drunk. And the original thumbnail drawing that Dave is describing was the same image as above, except that a pink ’bunny’ was in the middle (instead of Mace) looking relaxed and very satisfied. In *this* version, you can think whatever you need to~ we might have a print of it down the road.
