what about mace? WILL HE be a new main dark dreamkeeper bad guy?

one of them will be (SANS) like hero... but soon during the fight lilith hesitates to finish off mace as he is crying for all hopes are meant for nothing...

Somehow, I don't see Mace living after the final battle. If his powers are as immense as we believe them to be, then he might decide to kill himself in order to keep his powers out of anyone else's hands. Or, maybe he'll decide to seal himself within Bralgu and keep the Nightmares in line so that they never terrorize the dimensions ever again.

Either way, Mace probably won't know peace, even after the war.

perhaps... unless the story needs to be more like an undertale...

someone will be frisk... and mace would be flowey the flower... not with fight... but sparing...

@Prometheus

what if mace will be turned into an emotionally misunderstood nightmare lord?

@finlo

There is always the chance that Mace might take over for Nabonidus. Maybe that's what the Nab is planning to do. Convert Mace into obeying his will, then grooming him to take his place as the all-powerful emperor of the world. If that don't happen, then maybe the Nab intends to use Mace as a deterrent against anyone who would try to challenge him, only to be betrayed by Mace and Mace takes over the world under some twisted vision that his rule will bring peace and harmony.

So, basically the ending to Evangelion... the series at least. If it were End of Evangelion, it would be really depressing.

I wonder if it qualifies as grave digging if you're talking about the top three threads on a forum X_X?

Seeing the glow-ghost speak to Mace during Volume 4 (I've not read Vol 5), I was struck by one thing. They're supposed to motivate Mace by the fact that he will 'lose everyone he loves'. That could be a problem. The only person Mace truly seemed to love was Paige and probably Whip. His friendship with Namah, Lilith and Bast is only in the possibility zone and thin at best.

In fact, his emotional interaction between Bobby and Vi and Mace is surprisingly muted. Like. WTH? Mace should be to Bobby or Vi, what Paige was to Mace. They should be aware of the framed murder at the orphanage and the fact that he's nearly just been murdered himself half a dozen times over the course of the last few days. When they both got into that firefight, both should have been motivated the moment they saw Namah and Lilith and demanded to know where in Nethers Mace was. Instead, he's just useful to 'vouch' for them. Then, when he gets back, while others shower worry over Vi, Bobby casually notes that they'll just need to "Catch up later."

Where the bralgu is this kid's hug? You can see it on Mace's face, too. Especially when he sees both Lilith and Namah squeezed tight by Uncle Big Bird, and people rush to care and treat for everyone one else in the room while all he's had to clutch onto was a teleporter. No one comes for Mace. Whip notices, but is helpless to do anything about it. If I were to guess a motivation at the end of Volume 4, it's that Mace is starting to feel left out and abandoned - even worse because that was his initial state as an orphan. In reality, all Nabi-kun would need to offer would be emotional affection and he'd probably turn Mace to the dark side. The only thing going against him are that other Nightmares are trying to kill the boy and the people he wants to make friends with. This is why I suggest being nice, Nabi-kun! Make friends, not enemies.

But this still leaves Mace incredibly isolated and the emotional effort put into those scenes is really telling to me. It foreshadows that Mace's motivation to seek out Eresh-Kigal will not come so easy. It also gives the bad guys a lot of bargaining power if they ever decide to play smarter with this poor boy @_@. Or at least if I'm reading the story direction right.
